We’re loving the Autumn colour, although our members have expressed mixed feelings about the arrival of cooler weather. The Centre is a lovely nook to find warmth and connect with your community with just as much activity and variety as ever. Check out a copy of our Term 2 program for the details. It’s available on our website https://www.bncinc.org.au or call past the Centre for a hard copy.
Our line dancing tutor, Nathalie, put in an extraordinary amount of work to facilitate a successful Biggest Morning Tea fundraising event on May 3rd. With her team of volunteers, generous sponsors, entry fees and donations, Nathalie raised an awesome $3,681 for the Cancer Council. Donations can continue to be made on the Cancer Council’s website by scanning the QR code below:
The Line Dancing themed event under attracted about 80 guests who filled the floor under the expert direction of our regular instructors Nathalie and Anna and special guest Darren. Attendees enjoyed a massive selection of delicious food with their cuppas and unlimited line dancing.
Thanks to everyone who participated in and donated to this fun afternoon. Lucky winners took home 21 raffle hampers worth hundreds of dollars. We are grateful to the local businesses who donated prizes for the raffle as well as making significant cash donations for this worthy cause:

In other news, we were sad but understanding member when our longest serving Committee of Management member Gwen Neve made the decision to step down from her duties. We held a small lunch to honour Gwen’s service and acknowledge the decades during which she gave her time so selflessly to our Centre’s governing body.
Thankfully, Gwen will still be the main facilitator of the Midway Group on Monday afternoons, so this is by no means the last we’ll see of Gwen! Along with Committee and staff from past and present, Cr. Brett Owen attended Gwen’s luncheon to offer his thanks and pay tribute for her contributions to our community.
A small group of interested community members took the recent opportunity of attending a guided tour of Victorian Parliament with local MP Brad Battin and his lovely staff member, Suzannah. This was an interesting and very informative visit of the beautiful, heritage building.
Brad promised to continue his support and advocacy for ongoing, increased funding for Victorian Neighbourhood Houses. We’re grateful that he acknowledges the value and impact of our work and community service.
To celebrate Law Week, we hosted a free information session about legal wills on May 21st. Local firm, Johnstone and Reimer Lawyers gave their time to share the ins and outs of Wills, Estate Planning and Powers of Attorney. Attendees enjoyed light refreshments and free childcare was available for families to take advantage for the session with thanks to a small grant from the Victoria Law Foundation.
Our knitting group have done it again with their April handover of 308 knitted items for those in need including blankets, beanies, gloves and scarves for Bless Collective and Food Pantry.
Thank you to Anne, our Children’s Room Coordinator, for her extra work and everyone who donated prizes for our Mother’s Day Raffle. We raised over $350 and gave away 11 lovely prize hampers.
BNC Children’s Room
For the first time in a while, there are spaces available for an immediate start in our morning Playgroup sessions. Activities are set up for you and your child to enjoy in our Children’s Room with our qualified childcare educator, Judith, there to facilitate the group. This is a great beginning for your child to learn through play and socialising with your support, and it helps to familiarise them with the room if you would like to progress to Occasional Care with us. Children bring a snack and drink and clothes suitable for some messy activities.
Monday and Tuesday morning Playgroup sessions are 9am- 11am each week in school terms and an extra session runs on Tuesdays from 11.30am- 1.30pm. The cost equates to $7.50 each week paid in advance for however many weeks remain in the term. Second children are $4.00 and babies or additional siblings are $2.50 each.
We have the opportunity for a diploma qualified educator to join our team for Occasional Care. This position would suit someone looking for just a little guaranteed work each week and would also be our go-to person for covering other staff absences.
Add us on Facebook and Instagram for the latest updates. We welcome your enquiries and feedback. Stay connected to your community!
