Beaconsfield Banner Winter 2023 – Beaconsfield Football Club

The 2023 football season has commenced very well for Beaconsfield Football Club with our 3 Men’s teams all sitting in the top 5, while our Women’s team have shown promising form as well. The most pleasing aspect has been the excellent playing numbers for all teams as well as the great local support at our matches. Attendances & patronage at our Canteen appears to be back at pre-Covid levels & with the very good standard of football, the locals are obviously enjoying their day at the footy. We have also had a good turnout of volunteers for which we are very grateful and of course more helpers are always welcome.

A couple of memorable occasions in the year so far was the great turn out and interest in the inaugural Rik “Crazy” Crook Cup between Beaconsfield and an old rival in South Belgrave FC which was held in honour of a great footy person who has made a massive contribution at both clubs. This was the first time we had played them since 1982 when Rik actually captained Beaconsfield’s senior team. The South Belgrave club took home the cup after a terrific match and we will look to get it back when we meet up there on 8th July.

Another significant day was held at Holm Park on the 13th May home match when we paid tribute to our wonderful Life Member in Betty Doble who had passed away the previous week. This was an opportunity for family and friends to come together and give Betty a fitting farewell at the footy club which she loved and had made such an impact at.

The club also had a memorable Past Players and Officials day in May when we celebrated our 1953 & 2003 Senior premierships and our 1993 Reserves flag. Some famous Beacy players returned and some significant milestones in our club’s history were recalled with our last remaining player from the ‘53 team in Max Excell returning to Beaconsfield. The Excell family was very well known back in those days as Max’s mum was the station mistress and lived in the old Railway House which has certainly been in the local news of late.

There are still opportunities for any local business wanting to be involved in one of our biggest local community activities through sponsorship or awards and they can contact our Sponsorship team Scott Hilton on 0455 963 179, or Geoff McGowan on 0410 446 988.

You can keep up with all the Beacy footy news on our Facebook page and we would encourage you all to get involved with your community club in 2023 whether it’s with the Juniors or Seniors but it is great place to form life long connections and friendships.

Our 2023 remaining home games draw for our Men’s teams is as below:
