Beaconsfield Banner Winter 2019 Put your mind at rest

If you’re aged 50-74, you will receive a bowel cancer screening kit in the mail every two years. Bowel cancer is Australia’s second biggest cancer killer, yet if found early, 90% of bowel cancers can be successfully treated.

When your 50th birthday present from the government arrives in your mailbox, don’t throw it away. This home screening kit spots the early signs of bowel cancer, when the chance of successful treatment is more likely.

The test is simple, quick, hygienic and it could save your life. The National Bowel Cancer Screening Program sends you everything you need – instructions, a flushable toilet liner, collection tube and stick, a sanitary zip lock bag and reply-paid envelope. You can complete it in the comfort of your own home using the instructions provided.

Only 40.7% of eligible 50-74-year-olds in the South Eastern Melbourne area are completing the test – that’s below the state average. If you know someone aged 50-74, encourage them to do this easy, life-saving test, together we can increase the number of people taking part. To find out more information, visit www.bowelcancer.org.au.

BPA is a voluntary organisation representing the interests of residents and businesses of Beaconsfield, liaising with Cardinia Shire Council, Commonwealth and State Governments and Non-Government bodies in regard to planning & community issues, events and amenities for Beaconsfield.
