Welcome to this SUMMER edition of the Beaconsfield Banner for 2017. The Banner is available on the BPA website www.beaconsfield.org.au and on mobile phone, as well as printed copies available at the Post Office, Beaconsfield Community Centre and local businesses. I hope you enjoy reading the Banner continuing to inform Beaconsfield residents on what is happening.
The Touchscreen Project is nearing completion with the unit nearly ready for delivery and installation. There have been a number of meetings with the supplier, our IT person, Cardinia Shire Council and Beaconsfield Neighbourhood Centre in connection with the project and a member is busy researching and writing the text necessary for the Interactive Touchscreen Unit. The project will include information and a picture of soldiers from WWI on the Beaconsfield Honour Board and other information related to the area and is financed by a grant from Department of Veterans Affairs.
The Christmas Window Competition has received great response from Beaconsfield Retailers and is a great initiative to build festive spirit in our wonderful town this Christmas. This competition has been capably led by Tania Baxter and Bronwyn McCormick.
Beaconsfield Progress Association (BPA) is the voice of the community and is always willing to advocate on township matters to Councils, Governments and Government Authorities. Our Association received a response from Vic Roads on our requests for improvements to the Old Princes Hwy and O’Neil Road Intersection, Old Princes Hwy merge into Princes Highway and also reducing the 80km/h speed limit on a section of Old Princes Highway to 70km/h to have a uniform speed limit of 70km/h for Old Princes Hwy. Unfortunately, all those proposals were rejected by Vic Roads after a VicRoads Officer conducted a site inspection during afternoon/evening peak period. Our Association will continue to make representations to improve roads and intersections in Beaconsfield.
Cardinia Shire Council has provided an update in relation to the Glismann Road project. The Shire contact person is Lorna Lablache, who will discuss questions and can be contacted via email l.lablache@cardinia.vic.gov.au or phone 5945 4332. A report will be presented to Council on 19 February 2018.
Our Incorporated Association (BPA) held the Annual General Meeting on Tuesday 17 October. All positions were declared vacant and Office Bearers were elected. The Annual Accounts were adopted. The Guest Speaker was Fiona Cost, a Together We Can Facilitator at Cardinia Shire Council.
Carols by the Creek will be held on Sunday 17 December at Bob Burgess Reserve. This event is presented by Beaconsfield Baptist Church with BPA and we look forward to fine weather and a great crowd enjoying the evening.
At a recent meeting of Cardinia Shire Council Cr Collin Ross was elected as Mayor and Cr Brett Owen as Deputy Mayor. Congratulations to them both and we look forward to continuing good working relationships with Councillors and Council Staff.
Our Association is always keen to represent residents and businesses as a voice of the Community with State, Federal and Local Government. Our Association would like more people, groups, clubs and organisations to contribute their aspirations for our Community.
I wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a wonderful 2018.
GRAEME TAYLOR
PRESIDENT BPA
