Beaconsfield Banner Winter 2023 – Beaconsfield CFA

I Would like to take the opportunity to highlight four long time serving members of the Beaconsfield Fire Brigade.

Firstly Brian Unwin who joined the brigade nearly 60 years ago. He has held the position of Secretary and has spent 40 years ensuring that the many metres of hose are pressure tested repaired and above all are safe to use on the fire ground. Brian’s commitment to this task is legendary and as such has the workshop with his name above the door.

Secondly, myself. I have been a member for 57 years having held the position of Captain and 1st lieutenant. I held the position of Deputy Group Officer for 18 years. A leadership role that had me taking numerous truck strike teams to anywhere in Victoria.

Thirdly, Murray Johnston. For 45 years holding the positions of 2nd lieutenant, Brigade Welfare Officer and Training Officer throughout the region.
Murray was a school principal and is now living on Philip Island and has transferred to the brigade there to continue his CFA service.

Finally Ron Woodfine serving 45 years. As Captain for 12 years and until recently brigade driver trainer and Support force driver. He has recently retired from the training role and continues to support the brigade.

That is a total of 207 years of service to the community.

Fire calls continue with some days recording three calls and recently the brigade attended a fatal car accident in Beaconsfield. These callouts take a toll on those members who attend so please take care on our roads.

Winter is approaching and the cold weather is a good time to check your smoke alarm is operating. Smoke alarms save lives.

Stay safe.
