Beaconsfield Banner Winter 2020 Beaconsfield Junior Football Club

Well, the 2020 AFL season (or lack thereof) certainly has been a disappointing one for all our football community. One day we were busy registering players and volunteers to get the season started, the next we were thrown into isolation due to the Covid-19 Pandemic.

Fortunately, Beaconsfield JFC has a strong retention base of its members which meant that before we went into isolation, we managed to secure over 540 registrations (27 teams). Within these, we were trying to put together an U10 Girls team. With the exciting development of AFLW in recent years, there has been a huge uptake of girls registering to play footy, which is magnificent to see. But we still need more girls to join this team. So if your daughter was born between 2010-2011 (inclusive), please email our Registrar at registrar@beaconsfieldjfc.com.au.

This year we also saw the accreditation of 16 new coaches (from 26 teams), ready to take on the challenge of coaching a team. This is fantastic as it means that the children will get the experience of learning from a different voice and energy.

Speaking of new things around the club, we were successful in obtaining a grant for a new scoreboard on oval 2 at Holm Park. This project is near its completion. All we need next is some football games to see it in action!

One of our continuing sponsors became a major sponsor this year (Polyflor), so we had new goal post pads made up for oval 2 with this sponsor’s logo. We cannot wait to show them off, they look amazing! As always, we are very thankful to our wonderful sponsors both new and continuing, who committed to our club this season. They are: Home Timber & Hardware Beaconsfield, Polyflor, HFH Auto Group, Berwick Home Loans, Studio Reflections Photography, Beaconsfield Veterinary Centre, Renseal, Erect-A-Rack, Home Grown Design, BoardPro, Guzman Y Gomez, Clip ‘N Climb Berwick, Garrleigh Trophies, Beaconsfield Village Bakehouse, Bendigo Bank, Grill’d Fountain Gate, Ducky In The Field Café and Signactive.

At present, behind the scenes we are busy working alongside AFL Vic and AFLSE to get our teams up and training once again. We recognise the need for community sport to return as soon as possible for so many reasons, among them for the health and mental well-being of the children. Please bear with us for the time-being as there is a lot to prepare prior to us welcoming the children onto the oval once again. We have strict protocols we will need to adhere to and trust that our community will be behind us and assisting us in maintaining these strict government requirements.

From us here at Beaconsfield JFC – we cannot wait to hear that siren blaring and the umpires’ whistles going on Sundays. Until then, please stay safe.

BPA is a voluntary organisation representing the interests of residents and businesses of Beaconsfield, liaising with Cardinia Shire Council, Commonwealth and State Governments and Non-Government bodies in regard to planning & community issues, events and amenities for Beaconsfield.
