Welcome to this 2019 Spring edition of the Beaconsfield Banner. I hope you enjoy reading the Banner which continues to inform residents on what is happening. The township of Beaconsfield was saddened by the fire that substantially destroyed the complex of shops in Old Princes Highway near Cardinia Creek. The businesses affected were established for many years. The responses by the emergency services especially by Beaconsfield CFA is much appreciated.
At the July, 2019 BPA Meeting, Brad Battin MP Liberal State Member for Gembrook was the guest speaker. He discussed many local issues affecting Beaconsfield and answered questions. Our Association continues to make representations to Councils, State and Commonwealth Governments on local issues. In recent months, we have again advocated for a reduction of the 80 kmph speed limit currently existing in some sections of the Old Princes Highway to 70 kmph to have a uniform speed limit applying to all sections of the Old Princes Highway in Beaconsfield. We note that some of our previous suggestions have been implemented at the Old Princes Highway and O’Neil Rd intersection including keep clear sign and improved line markings. We have reported the poor state of the footpath on the west side of Woods Street. There are broken sections of the concrete path and poor lighting. We look forward to repairs being done.
Amendment C238 Glismann Road Development and Development Contributions Plan was passed at the August Cardinia Shire Council Meeting. Consultations are continuing with residents and any other affected or interested parties. Anyone interested should have discussions with Cardinia Shire Council Planning staff to discuss their views on the Glismann Road Plan.
The Applications by our Association for 2019/2020 Festival and Events Grants for the Australia Day Picnic and Movie Night and also the Beaconsfield Anzac Memorial Service were approved but for lesser amounts than were claimed. We are working on how best to run these Events in 2020 and considering ways to meeting revised budget expenditure.
Beaconsfield Progress Assoc. Inc. is the voice of the community and is always willing to advocate on township matters. We have some projects planned and also projects proposed and we welcome visitors to our meetings and new members to further the work being undertaken to benefit Beaconsfield. Meetings are held on the third Tuesday of each month at the Beaconsfield Community Complex commencing at 7.30pm and finishing at 9pm.
