On the 27^thJanuary 1917 in England, Richard married Adelaine Eva Taylor. On the 31^stAugust 1918 it was reported Richard had been gassed and admitted to hospital. Returned to Australia on the 20^thMay 1920. Discharged on the 24^thNovember 1920.

“10,000^th WAAAF Enlists.

When Miss Peggy Gledhill enrolled yesterday in the WAAAF at No 1 recruiting centre Russell Street, she was the 10,000^th WAAAF to enrol in Australia. Mr Drakeford, Air Minister, welcomed Miss Gledhill into the service and wished her every success. Air-Commodore R J Brownell MC, AOC, No 1 training centre, and Wing-Cdr C B Ransom, CO, No 1 training centre were also present. Miss Gledhill, the daughter of Lt R Gledhill and Mrs Gledhill of Cohuna, has been a dental nurse for about 6 years, and has enrolled as a dental orderly. Her brother, Norman, is a wireless air gunner in the RAAF.”

Richard re-enlisted for Military Service on the 13^thSeptember 1937 and served until 1945. He was then employed by the railways and in 1949 he was the Assistant Station Master at Cohuna.

Died in 1949 at Cohuna, Victoria. Buried in 1949 at Cohuna Cemetery, Victoria.
