On the 4thOctober 1917 Herman received a mild gunshot wound to his back. He returned to active duty and on the 28thAugust 1918 was wounded with a gunshot wound to his right knee. Returned to Australia on the 16thJune 1919. Discharged on the 22nd June 1920.

Herman returned to live at Beaconsfield, his occupation storekeeper.

His brother is Lieutenant Leslie Alfred Roberts.

Died on the 13th August 1953 at Beaconsfield, Victoria.

Cremated on the 14thAugust 1953 at Springvale Botanical Cemetery.
