On the 4^thOctober 1917 Herman received a mild gunshot wound to his back. He returned to active duty and on the 28^thAugust 1918 was wounded with a gunshot wound to his right knee. Returned to Australia on the 16^thJune 1919. Discharged on the 22^nd June 1920.

Herman returned to live at Beaconsfield, his occupation storekeeper.

His brother is Lieutenant Leslie Alfred Roberts.

Died on the 13^th August 1953 at Beaconsfield, Victoria.

Cremated on the 14^thAugust 1953 at Springvale Botanical Cemetery.
